Spring 2012 Dean's Lecture Series
The Faculty of Environment proudly presents a lecture from Dr. Jonn Axsen, from the School of Resource and Environmental Management (REM), SFU:
"Electric Vehicle Hype and Hope: The Key to Sustainable Mobility?"
Date: March 23, 2012
Time: 2:30 to 3:30
Location: Halpern Centre, Room 126 (Burnaby Campus).
For decades, the promise of electric-powered vehicles has inspired hope for a clean, low-carbon, petroleum-free transportation system. But critics only see hype -- a fantasy technology plagued by costly batteries, inconvenient recharging, and little environmental improvement. In this talk, Dr. Jonn Axsen will draw from in-depth market and technical research to cut through the emotional and polarized debates surrounding electric-vehicles. The discussion will discard myths and identify key opportunities to transition towards sustainable mobility.
Dr. Axsen is an Assistant Professor with the School of Resource and Environmental Management at SFU, and specializes in behavioural and technical aspects of transitions to sustainable energy systems.
Light refreshments will be served. In the spirit of sustainability, it would be appreciated if you would please bring your own coffee mug. This event is open to the public therefore seating will be based on a first come, first served basis.
