Collaborative Teaching Fellows Program
Call for Proposals
Supported by the Office of the Vice President Academic, the Faculty of Environment is seeking creative proposals that enhance teaching and associated environmental education in the broadly defined area of environment.
The intention of this 3-year pilot project is to support cross-Faculty collaboration and interdisciplinary activities that are in line with SFU and FENV long-term objectives in environment.
Project Details (Eligibility and Project Budget)
Projects must:
- involve tenured/tenured-track faculty or lecturers individually or in teams (may include staff)
- focus on the broadly defined area of environment including humanities, social sciences and natural sciences as well as sustainability
- support teaching or associated activities at either the undergraduate or graduate levels
- involve collaboration with FENV or FENV collaboration with other Faculties
Program funding can be provided for a variety of costs including but not limited to faculty buy-out/overload, graduate student support and activity costs.
Projects may be for a single term or extended over multiple terms
Funding levels vary, depending upon the project. Buy-outs will be between $8000 and $10,000.
Additional Selection Criteria
- Projects that are multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary
- Courses and activities that bring together teaching with research and/or community engagement
- Projects that support long-term collaboration across Faculties
- Projects that contribute to SFU’s longer term environment or sustainability objectives
Examples of Possible Projects
- Development and piloting courses that can be included in FENV programs or in non-FENV environment/sustainability programs.
- Development and implementation of workshops, symposia, field activities or community-engaged projects associated with instruction.
- Development/piloting First Year Experience or learning community activities
- Non-FENV faculty members teaching a FENV course individually or as part of a team
- FENV faculty members delivering environment content in non-FENV courses or activities
- Modifying and piloting existing courses to include environmental content
- Integration of environmental experiential learning and community engagement in courses
Deadline for Proposals
Proposal will be accepted and reviewed on a continuous basics.
Proposal Submission
The proposal should be no more than 2 pages and should include a description of the project addressing requirements and criteria, roles of individuals involved and an approximate budget.
